Trip Report: Depart Ship Ashore Marina in Sag Harbor, NY at 5:25 AM with Swim Crew loaded in DPB transport vessels. Arrive at Gleason Pt (start location) at 5:45 AM. 8 swimmers hit the water and touch the beach at Gleason Pt. for the start.

Gleason Pt. (START)

Swim start 5:59 AM from Gleason Pt., which is the North West point of North Haven in Sag Harbor. Conditons are calm and clean with a very slight texture. Wind is 4-5kts out of the SE, tide is flooding into Noyac and Little Peconic Bay.

The nature of this swim is that it is a double channel crossing and must be lined up accordingly. The first crossing is the channel between North Haven and the South side of Shelter Island that floods into Noyac Bay (avg. depths approx. 40 - 50 ft). The second channel crossing is between Southold’s Great Hog Neck and the west side of Shelter Island that floods into the Little Peconic Bay (avg. depts approx. 50 - 60 ft).

Accounting for the strong currents, swimmers had to stay hard on course and complete both channel crossings at pace in order to not get swept too far South and completely missing Cedar Beach Pt.

With the tide push, the strength of this swim crew, and a clean course set by our resident boat captains, all 8 swimmers successfully completed the swim in under 1.5 hours.

Levels of Support / Logistics Breakdown: This swim was supported by (2) support/guide vessels. Boat #1 was captained by Dave H. with one addition spotter. Boat #2 was captained by Drew H. with one additional spotter. All swimmers were transported to swim start location and were picked up from swim end location.
