2025 Noyac Bay Annual Swim

Every year on the Tuesday after Labor Day aka “Tumbleweed Tuesday,” Dawgpatch punches a swim across Noyac Bay to end the regular Tuesday Morning Swim season. This year, 6 swimmers took on the questionably 3 mile crossing from Jessups Neck to Long Beach (some were calling for a 4 mile designation on the beach). No matter, the bay is the bay and the distance is mental anyways. Nothin to do, but to put the head down and get to strokin.

Start Point: Jessups Neck (North End)

End Point: Long Beach (Northeast End)

Distance: 3.3 miles

Swimmers: Ewen Cameron, Lucas Cameron, Jeremy Grosvenor, Nico McMahon, Nick Stevens, and Robin Perez.

Levels of Support: 2 guide boats - each with captain and crew members to spot and keep swimmers on charted course. Lead Boat - Captained by Dave Harvey, crewed by Dawn Harvey along with Lifeguard Chuck Partellow. Trail Boat, the “Point to Point” - Captained by Drew Harvey, crewed by Tom Perez and Mika Harvey.

Date of Completion: 09/02/20245

Swim Start off Jessups Neck

Trip Report: 5th annual Noyac Bay swim. Support boats picked up swimmers from Long Beach at 7:15 AM for transport to swim start location at Jessups Neck. Swimmers departed the boats to touch land at Jessups and begin their swim at 7:30 AM.

Winds were out of the East North East at 5.7 kts gusting to 11 kts which produced a decent little chop. The beginning of the swim is the most exposed section with little protection from the wind. High tide was at 8:12 AM. The course taken across Noyac Bay never really gives you a tide push so swimmers had to earn each mile.

Nick Stevens in the thick of Noyac Bay

Swimmers eventually broke out into 2 groups, a lead and trail group. Ewen, Lucas, Nico and Jeremy made up the front group, while Nick and Robin stayed close behind out the back.

Approximate heading was 110 degrees for the duration of the swim which set us up nicely for a strong straight finish in to Long Beach.

The first crew of swimmers hit the beach at 9:30 AM and the second crew at 9:50 AM.

Swim end on Long Beach

Additional Details: If you would like to join in this swim, or others like it next season - be sure to come out to our weekly Tuesday morning swims from Memorial Day to Labor Day to meet the crew and stay in the know.
