Georgica to Hither Hills Swim / Hike Hybrid
On Friday August 29th resident DPB swimmer, Spencer Schneider, completed a swim + hike hybrid Point to Point from Georgica Beach to Hither Hills (Ocean Beach Access). With Lifeguard, Chuck Partellow running support on foot for the entirety of the journey this quest was completed in true Dawgpatch form along some of Long Island’s most desolate stretches of beach. One can only imagine what the flocks of gulls were thinking when they saw these 2 rogue bandits heading east across Napeague.
START POINT: Georgica Beach, East Hampton
END POINT: Hither Hills State Park: Ocean Beach Access
Mode of Travel ( Ex: Run, Swim, Bike, Paddle, Hike) : Swim and Hike
Distance: 11.77 miles
Date of Completion: August 29, 2025
Levels of Support: Chuck Partellow acted as support, hiking the entire trip, carrying all needed nutrition and lifeguarding.
Caite Kappel joining in for the first swim stretch
Trip Report: Alternating between 30 minutes swimming/30 minutes walking-hiking. Each leg turned out to be approximately 1 mile and I was able to complete this point to point in just under 6 hours.
Napeague Stretch
Additional Details: “I have swam 1/2 of this gorgeous stretch of beach in one shot and the other stretch in a couple of shots, but I’ve long wanted to complete it one shot. I decided it would be fun time to break up the swim with fast walking, thinking that it would allow me to swim each leg at a faster pace while also enjoying this largely unprotected/unused stretch on land. The section along the Napeague stretch is magnificent - no human life in sight, only extremely large flocks of gulls, cormorants, terns and plovers. I highly recommend this route to anyone and am happy to help you plan it. Caite Kappel joined and supported me on the first leg of the swim.” - Spencer Schneider
