Mt. Superior - South Face & Suicide Chute

Objective: Mt. Superior - South Face (primary) and Suicide Chute (secondary).
Location: Mount Superior, Central Wasatch Mountains, UTAH.
Pitch: 40 degrees
Exposure: S-SE-SW
Elevations: 8,200’ - 11,231’

Trip Report: Park at Alta (little cottonwood roadside parking). Follow the power lines up staying left to the reach the saddle (skinning). Continue to follow the ridge-line west to Mount Superior, at a certain point pop off the skis and boot the steep narrow section of the ridge. Ski the South Face off of the peak or follow the south ridge a little to drop in on the more east facing slope (play to the conditions and avalanche danger).
You can ski all the way down to the road in one 3,000’ shot OR bear right - skiing and traversing little shots until you reach the base of Suicide Chute (this is what we did). Boot up suicide and ski down for an extra 750’ shot. *Note the other side of Suicide is Homicide Chute.
Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.
