  • Trip Report / Additional Details: “After camping out in Gorham, NH the night before the traverse, we woke up at 3:15 AM to hit the Appalachia Trailhead by 4:25am on July 26. The sun started to peak through the tree-line about 2 miles and 2,000 feet into our climb. We had a quick pit stop about 4 miles in and a little over 4,000 feet to refuel before cresting Mt. Madison, our first peak of the day. Next we trekked our way up Mt. Adams, where the wind began to kick up and some fog rolled in. We were just under 5,500 feet for peak number 2. After another 2.5 miles above tree-line in the wind, we summited Mt. Jefferson and hung out within the clouds.

The next 3.5 miles featured a series of ups and downs and strong gusts before we reached the summit of Mt. Washington around noon. At over 6,000 feet, we had the pleasure of waiting in line in the wind for our summit selfie with the  train riders and car warriors. We refueled and relayered and continued on. Our next trek brought amazing views and clear skies taking us passed the Lakes of the Clouds. From there, we hit a quick summit of Mt. Monroe before zigzagging above treeline to Mt. Eisenhower in the distance.

Tired and sunburnt, we marched on growing closer and closer to Mt. Pierce as the afternoon wind died down and the heat set in. After bagging and tagging 7 peaks, we sauntered our last 3 miles down Crawford to the AMC Highland Center where our second car was waiting. After 14 hours on the trail, we celebrated traveling just under 20 miles and climbing over 8,000 feet.” - Jake Haugevik
